Misconceptions about Classical Homeopathy
The original homeopathy, formulated by Hahnemann is based upon the 5 basic principles mentioned before. For a consultation to be successful, all principles need to be taken into consideration. Such a treatment takes up a lot of time and demands a broad experience and education. A classical homeopath acknowledged by a union will have had 5 to 6 years of higher education which includes the same knowledge of the human body a medical doctor had to study. They also have to continue their studies by going to seminars and keep up to date on all that is happening in the regular medicine world, in order to maintain their licence.
Unfortunately such an education is not (always) (this is based upon laws in the Netherlands) mandatory to be able to call yourself a homeopathic therapist. There are many homeopaths that have had no or almost no education and simplify the rules of homeopathic healing a great deal. The homeopathic therapist who did follow formal education distinguishes him or herself by using the term ‘classical homeopathy’, which means following all the rules and principles set by Hahnemann. They will also be the only ones acknowledged by a union and eligible for a licence.
Another misconception comes from the many homeopathic products available. There are homeopathic cookies, toothpaste, coffee, garlic pills; even homeopathic menus are sometimes available in restaurants. Homeopathy is often confused with herbal medicine. It can’t be stressed enough that these things have absolutely nothing to do with what classical homeopathy is about.
